A Study of Yong-Woon Han's National Thought

Mahn-Hae, Han Yong-Woon is one of the most outstanding characters from the historic wivew of a modern thought of Korea. His will for reformation of Buddhism, his spirit of independence which made our nation aware of the spirit of automony, and his literal spirit which played a pioneer-role of a new cultural movement made him even more distinguishable. Such spirits are based on the self-consciousness and the spirit of independence with due regard to a world view of Buddhism.
This study may show what the environment of Mahn-Hae's spirit of independence and its principle are base on.
Firstly, with refernce to the environment of the spirit of independence and his life, this study investigates the spirit of independence displayed in the revolution movement of Buddhism, Sam-Il Movement, and the national movement.
Secondly, the basic principle of the spirit of independence is revealed in the natures of human spirit-the issue of freedom,-equallity, peace and salvation of the world.
In such arguments, altruistic behaviour and the spirit of benevolence of Mahayana Buddhism form a basic concept. Therefore Mahn-Hae was able to devote himself to practical activities for the autonomy and independence of our nation.
In short, this research on the spirit of independence of Mahn-Hae ought to be highly evaluated as instruction awakening us of the periodic spirit and the motive power for making a new history.
